Tauheedah F. Baker, Executive Director of Academics
A native of Newark, Tauheedah Baker came to the Paulo Freire Charter School from Urban Arts Partnership in New York City, where she served as the Managing Director of the Fresh Prep Program. Prior to her tenure at Urban Arts, she served as the Director of School Partnerships for Peace First, New York, and worked as an educator in both the Newark Public Schools and the Los Angeles Unified School District.
She is a distinguished curriculum writer and researcher, who has presented workshops and spoken on panels for the U.S. Department of Education, and various universities and education organizations. In 2011, Tauheedah was selected by President Barack Obama as a White House Community Leader in Education, and has been featured on the front page of the Star Ledger for her innovative approach to curriculum and instruction. In 2009, she was featured in Phi Delta Kappan as 1 of 5 educators, nationwide, making a difference.
She holds a Bachelors of Arts in History and Near Eastern Language and Culture from UCLA, a Masters in Urban Education from UCLA, and a Masters of Public Administration in Non Profit Management and Urban Educational Leadership from Rutgers University.

Demond D. Jones, Executive Director of Operations
Demond Jones joins our staff after a 7 year tenure with the Newark Public Schools. Mr. Jones brings to the Paulo Freire Charter School an array of leadership talents and capabilities which he honed working in various leadership capacities within non-profit and educational institutions within Essex County. He served as the Chief Executive Officer of Advocates for Diversity in Our Schools (A.D.I.O.S.), where he worked to developed partnerships with schools and districts seeking to provide a robust multicultural environment and curriculum that met the needs of all students. Prior to his work with A.D.I.O.S., Mr. Jones served as the Executive Director for the West Orange based Summer Scholars Institute, and worked as a Transfer Admissions Counselor for the University of California, Los Angeles.
Mr. Jones is a product of the Los Angeles Unified School District, and holds a B.A. in History and African American Studies, and a B.S. in Environmental Science from UCLA. He considers himself a lifelong learner, and is currently enrolled in the Organizational Leadership Masters Degree program at Montclair State University.

He also worked as the coordinator of the Chancellor Avenue Annual Father & Son breakfast, and served as an advisor for Best Men, Newark. In summation, Mr. Jones now brings his wealth of knowledge and expertise to bare on the establishment of an exceptional high school experience at the Paulo Freire Charter School.
