School Motto, Colors, & Mascot
Quaerite Veritatem
Quaerite Veritatem is The Freire School's motto. It is Latin for "Search for the Truth." The school motto is symbolized by the torch and implemented in practice through our inquiry based instructional model. Our motto, and its visual representation, appears on the school's crest.
Crimson, Black, and White
Crimson, Black, and White are The Freire School's colors. Our school colors reflect our commitment to the core of our mission- to prepare scholars who will succeed and graduate from college. The school colors of Crimson, Black, and White are the same colors of one of the top universities in the country, Harvard University. The school's crest bears our colors. When wearing our colors and viewing our crest, we are reminded of our mission, and our goal- forming knowledgeable and discerning minds that are prepared for higher education and lifelong learning.
The Phoenix
_The Freire School mascot is the Phoenix. The Phoenix
rises from the ashes and is born anew. Therefore, our mascot symbolizes
re-birth. The Phoenix reminds us that we must be
transformed from passive recipients of our condition, to active
participants who are committed to changing the conditions around us.
The Phoenix also embodies our mission to graduate a scholar who thrives in service to others, and our goal of putting scholarship into practice for the purpose of addressing social inequities and injustice.
The Phoenix appears on the school's crest in the upper right corner, to remind us that through inquiry, this is the goal for which we seek.
